Are you unemployed? Are you coming from a difficult place in your life as you search for employment? Does the idea of creating a resume freak you out? Do you have a job but just need a few things to get you started, like some decent clothing and some help with transportation? If your answer is “yes” to any of these questions, St Joseph the worker is here for you; and it’s quick and easy to receive our services!
STEP 1
Come Into Our Office
Our offices are easily accessible by light rail and other forms of transportation and there are no appointments necessary. You can find a list of our office locations here.
STEP 2
Complete an Intake Form
In order to provide you with the most help we can, we’ll ask you provide us us with a valid ID and some information about you, your work history, and employment eligibility.
If you don’t have all that ready, that’s okay! We will walk through your employment history with you again later and we have resources to help you get a new ID quickly and easily!
And don’t worry if you don’t have a lot work experience, have large gaps in your employment, or are justice-involved. As long as you have a willingness to work, we will help you find the right job!
STEP 3
Meet With an Employment Specialist
Here’s where the real work starts. You will sit down with one of our experienced Employment Specialists to plan out your employment journey. You will discuss your skillset, recent work history, physical limitations, and previous criminal history (if applicable) to create a one-of-a-kind unique-to-you employment plan.
STEP 4
Get an Updated Professional Resume
After getting a better understanding of what kind of job you’re looking for, our Employment Specialists will help you build a resume that highlights your strengths and accomplishments.
An accomplishment-driven resume helps you stand out from other applicants to an employer.
STEP 5
Follow Up on Job Leads
Our Employment Specialists will then help you find at least three job leads that match your situation. This means that we will only give you job leads that you can be hired at given your skills, location, and history. If you are interested in those leads, you will then apply to those jobs with the help of your Employment Specialist.
STEP 6
Start Interviewing
When you’re ready, St. Joseph the Worker will work with you to sharpen your interview skills, get you appropriate interview clothing, and provide you with the transportation resources you need to get to and from interviews in the form of a gas card or a bus pass.
STEP 7
Don't Give Up
Waiting to hear back from potential employers is tough and sometimes takes longer than you’d like it to. Hang in there! We will be there with you every step of the way as you navigate challenges that might come up.
STEP 8
Get a Job
Come back into the office and let us celebrate you and your success!
STEP 9
Get Resources and Start Working
Once you gain employment, we invite you to come back into our offices to get assistance with what you need to be successful in your new role. Our Employment Specialists will provide you with vouchers for work uniforms and transportation. We will also assist with necessary certifications for your job, like a First Aid Certification or a Food Handler’s Card, and even help you get tools if your job requires you to have them.
STEP 10
