St. Joseph the Worker's Executive Director, Amy Caffarello, received a Piper Fellow's Award from the
Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust in 2009. The award is granted to Valley leaders to "retool, refresh
and renew" their skills. As a result, Amy is on a six-week sabbatical that began on May 1, 2010.
She is participating in professional development courses, visiting agencies in other cities that are doing
similar work to St. Joseph the Worker, and the rest of the staff as well as the Board of Directors is
eligible for development support. Through this Fellowship, Amy hopes to "learn new insights and
strategies for St. Joseph the Worker to incorporate in to our program operations." For more information
about the Piper Fellow's Program, visit the Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust website, www.pipertrust.org

keep her 13-year-old son with her. This was the first time the two of them had ever been separated.
